The Aesir Bring Order

By Shea McCurdy

Much like our creation myth, to have a home one must tame the wild and set a space in order. Sacrifices are made to provide safety, food, and shelter.

Chaos is the bane of those seeking peace. War may be chaotic though its conclusion may afford respite.

Having rules to live by produces amicable relations. When there are no clear guidelines, some find themselves stirring up trouble without any solution.

Even when rules are in place, if there is no action taken to punish the rule breaker, then chaos has a foothold.

Wherein do we derive our rules? What is a law but a way to find peaceful means of cooperation to lead to success of the tribe?

In the late 700’s, when Frisians were conquered by the Frankish Empire, they were asked what rules do they live by, but they didn’t have an answer. This frustrated Charlemagne, who felt his time was being wasted, so he offered them a choice; death or set afloat on the sea without oars on a rudderless boat. They chose the boat which saved them for a time, but soon thirst had them praying to the Gods for help.

A fog took them over and when it passed none other than Forseti was in the boat steering it toward shore with his silver axe.

Once ashore, Forseti struck the rocky shore to open a fresh water spring to quench the thirst of the thankful men.

Knowing their deeper conundrum, Forseti gave them a set of rules to live by that they could then give the Franks. Had they come up with this themselves, perhaps they wouldn’t have lost the war and found themselves drifting aimlessly away from their land.

These rules in part can be found in the Lex Frisionum. They are worth a gander as you’ll soon see that the punishments were greater when harming women or children, but also depending on social stature. This wasn’t just that those who were higher status drew a larger fine when crossed, but that they were held to a higher standard and more scrutiny when breaking the law.

If your family had a set of rules, what would they be? Do you think those rules would be chosen by all of our families? I bet there are several we could all agree upon. Those rules are what will set us on a path to prosperity and victory. We are descended from Aryan, European, White Ancestors. Those peoples given breath from Odin himself. Being Folkish describes some of this, though it goes further. I am protective of my family, tribe and nation. These relationships are born of a thousand loves. We have a blood memory and many gifts from those that lived before us. We have a duty and responsibility to those who come after us.

Let us create a framework that guides us to be our best!
