Skuld: Weaver of What Must Become

In the Lore, Skuld is named both as a Norn and a Valkyrie.

As a Norn, she is one of the three mighty maidens, Urd “Origin”, Verdandi “Becoming”, and Skuld “Debt”, who dwell by the Well of Urd beneath Yggdrasill. In Völuspá (st. 20), they are described as the ones who shape the lives of men and weave their fate. Their weaving is very law of wyrd, which binds the gods and mortals alike.

As a Valkyrie, Skuld is listed in Völuspá (st. 30) among the choosers of the slain, and in Skáldskaparmál (Snorri’s Prose Edda) she appears again as one of the maidens sent by Odin to determine who shall fall in battle.

This dual role sets Skuld apart: she is at once a cosmic weaver of destiny and an active chooser of the fallen, binding warriors to the threads she has already seen in the loom of wyrd. She is the keeper of “that which must become,” the unfolding of fate that cannot be denied.

Skuld reminds us that the future is not a blank slate, nor is it fully determined, it is the living tension of what must unfold. She is the weaver of potential crystallized into form. In her, the strands of the past (Urd) and present (Verdandi) converge into what is now becoming.

To work with Skuld is to surrender to the becoming of your wyrd. Vril, when tangled in past pain or resistance, cannot flow clearly. By aligning with Skuld, we heal by releasing control over what cannot be changed, and by stepping fully into the thread we are meant to carry forward. Her power teaches that healing is not only mending the past, but also allowing the future to unfold as it must.

We stand at the Well of Urd, drinking deeply of its waters. With Skuld beside us, we remember: our future is being woven now, in each choice, each breath, each act of courage. To resist is to tangle our own strand; to align is to let Vril flow freely into the becoming of our destiny.

Invocation of Skuld

“Skuld, Weaver of Becoming,

Guide me into the thread I must carry.

Cleanse me at the Well,

Strengthen me in the weave,

And let my Vril flow into the future with clarity.”
